You don't need to wink at the audience and try to be cute when you back your shit up with facts.

Just a quick recommendation to anyone longing to understand what the hell is going on with the economy. Aside from this past week's stellar "This
American Life", which explains it to date pretty well, I highly recommend the free NPR Planet Money Podcast, available off of iTunes.
They do shows daily, which allows you to keep up with what's going on. Because of them, I understand commercial paper, the TEd Spread, why 3-month Treasury Bonds are a better way to keep track of the fear in the market, and more. Check it out. Cuz knowledge is power! |

I second that emotion. This weeks TAL was informative and terrifying. And Planet Money makes me feel smarter(ish).

I could have put this in the Random Shite thread (brilliant addition, whoever that was), but the point made is somewhat relevant here.
That Jack Bauer-narrated Bank of America baseball spot that says of America: "Passion was invented here." Um.... this country is less than 300 years old. Even you crazy crazies who think the world only 6000 years old must realize that passion must have existed in the previous 5700+ years. Fucking hubris, those B of A ad agency copywriters. |

Watching this video, I am reminded of this quote from Cheers:
Someone (reading aloud): "It was the best of times, it was the worst of times..."" Norm: "Wait. Which was it?" |

This email reminded me of Richard Trumka,
who was discussed on last weeks "This American Life". It's a useful list to email any older friends or relatives still on the fence.
What if John McCain were a former president of the Harvard Law Review? |
